Greeks go “ga-ga” for Spartans

WB’s ‘300,’ the story of the Spartans at the battle of Thermopylae has Greek theaters packed. Not since ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest opening weekend when 220,000 tickets were sold, has there been such a bee line to movie theaters.
‘300’ sold 325,000 tickets its opening weekend in Greece and has now topped one million admits – about ten percent of the population of the country have now seen the epic battle on the big screen.
In Thermopylae itself, there are no movie theaters, so many of the villagers have not seen the film since the nearest theater is an hour’s drive away. But the Associated Press reports that the villagers are proud of the films worldwide success.
