Whoever said that an Oscar nomination does not help bring in projects should take a look at Mark Wahlberg.

Nominated in the Supporting Actor category for ‘The Departed’ at the 2007 Academy Awards, Wahlberg is presently starring in Paramount Pictures' ‘Shooter,’  and he recently signed on to Paramount's boxing drama ‘The Fighter’ to be helmed by Darren Aronofsky (‘The Fountain’).

Now it seems that Wahlberg has signed on to M. Night Shyamalan’s  $57 million production of ‘The Happening.’

Movie revolves around a family on the run from an apocalyptic threat to humanity. Wahlberg will play Elliot Moore, the science teacher at the center of the event.

Shyamalan wrote the original screenplay and will produce with Sam Mercer and Barry Mendel, producer of Shyamalan's 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Unbreakable.'

Production is set to begin in August in Philadelphia.

"Happening" will mark the first time Shyamalan -- whose most recent film, 'Lady in the Water,' performed poorly  for Warner Bros. Pictures -- will partner with Fox. His first four films were made for the Walt Disney Co.

20th Century Fox will release pic on Friday the 13th of June 2008.
