Poor Jim Carrey! His latest flick, ‘The Number 23’ bombed at the domestic box office taking in $35 million (that’s $23 million and a half).
Last year two of his projects were canned over budget problems, ‘Fox and Sony’s ‘Used Guys’ and Paramount’ s ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not!’ (which is purportedly back on track again with Tim Burton directing and screenwriter Steve Oedekerk rewriting script).
Carrey also pulled himself out of Focus Features ‘A Little Game’ right before it was set to start helming (in all fairness, Cameron Diaz pulled out at same time).
Now, it is being reported that Carrey has picked up a 20th Century Fox comedy, ‘Me Time.’
Principato-Young (‘Reno – 911’) will produce along with Carrey with script by Ian Roberts and Jay Martel.Story revolves around a writer working on a book about his great-great-grandma, a frontier woman. When his pregnant wife has to take bed rest, Carrey becomes a house husband - his confidence is shaken as he reads his ancestor's diary, in which she describes raising a family, plowing the fields and taming the wild environment.
Principato-Young has additional projects working at Fox Atomic (‘Space Invader’), at Regency (‘Man Wedding,’ and at DreamWorks (‘The Ambassador’).
