In a lighthearted moment during a press conference with foreign journalists in Hat Yai on the insurgent situation in Thailand’s southern provinces March 28, General Sondhi Boonyaratkain, chairman of the Council for National Security –architect of the September 19 bloodless military coup in Thailand said he might be interested in participating in the making of a movie surrounding events of the coup.

When this reporter said to him, “General Sonthi, the events surrounding activities of last September 19th play out like a good Hollywood action thriller, with (former prime minister) Thaksin Shinawatra in New York during the army action – first leaving Thailand with 50 some bags of something on Russian planes…has anyone approached you to do a movie version? Would you be interested in doing a movie on those events?
General Sonthi cracked a half smile as comments were translated to him and interrupted by an aide who whispered in his ear - THE aide I had spoken to prior to the start of the press conference requesting a one-on-one sit down with the General.
The General in true Hollywood style looked at me and said, “Let’s sit down and talk about it.”
Coming to the big-screen soon – ‘Thailand’s Smile Coup.’
Come to think of it, Harrison Ford would make a good Thaksin Shinawatra, hmmmm….
