Hong Kong, SAR (M&C) - Accepting her Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema award at the Asian Film Awards (AFA) in Hong Kong, March 20, Siao Fong said, “I really don’t think I deserve this honor. There are so many wonderful filmmakers, actors and actresses who deserve this much more than I do, but this is such a marvelous gift for my 60th birthday that I must zap it home as quickly as I can before the organizers change their mind.” She then did a little magic trick to send the trophy home in three seconds!
HK actress Siao Fong
It was a memorable 60th birthday for Siao, and she expressed her sincere thanks to the organizers of the Asian Film Awards for granting her both an honor and a splendid birthday gift. She was also overwhelmed to receive the trophy from a director she admires -- Luc Besson.
Said Fong Fong, “I normally don’t celebrate my birthday, but when my friend Nansun Shi (Honorary Advisor of the Asian Film Awards) emailed me about the award, I could hardly believe it -- the AFA was held on the same day as my birthday! What an incredible coincidence…and what a special birthday gift!”
Siao has said that film making is all about team work, and was proud to share it will all the talented people she has worked with throughout her career.
Given that this might be her last appearance in public functions because of her hearing problems (she is deaf in both ears and suffers from constant ringing in her head) Siao made it as enjoyable for herself as for the audience.
Everyone enjoyed the magic, a reprise of the film magic Siao created in her early films as a child.
