New Line to 'Escape'
By M&C Movie News Mar 17, 2007, 14:49 GMT

Well, Monsters and Critics told you the other day studios were circling ‘300’ star Gerard Butler to play Snake Plissken in a remake of ‘Escape from LA.’
Now it is confirmed, New Line has snagged the project and Butler will reprise the role.
Ken Nolan (‘Black Hawk Down’) will write the script, which will combine an origin story for Plissken merged with the story of the 1981 movie. Original was set in a futuristic 1997, when Manhattan had been turned into a giant maximum-security prison. The U.S. president's plane crashed on the island, and Plissken, incarcerated for robbing a federal reserve bank, was coerced into a rescue mission.
John Carpenter who was behind the original said of the new remake: "Snake is one of my fondest creations. Kurt Russell did an incredible job, and it would be fun to see someone else try." Carpenter will exec produce the new film.

If New Line wants to make Escape from NY they should make a better sequel than that horrid movie that was put out. Kurt Russell is Snake !! No one else should be Snake !! Gerard Butler can Rescue Snake or Hunt Snake or find Snake or take over for Snake but there is only one Snake Plissken !!
That is Kurt !!!
