Columbia Pictures and Will Smith will once again exploit the tear jerking road to redemption premise in his newly optioned project, based on Jeff Henderson's drug dealer-turned-star chef memoir "Cooked: From the Streets to the Stove, From Cocaine to Foie Gras."
Smith's Overbrook Entertainment and Escape Artists will produce for Columbia, reports the Hollywood Reporter. Overbrook's Smith and James Lassiter will produce with Escape Artists' Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal.
"Cooked" takes Chef Jeff from a druggy ex-con to executive chef at the Cafe Bellagio in Las Vegas. He fortuitously learned the art of gourmet cooking while serving a prison sentence for dealing and "cooking" crack.
Lassiter praised Henderson as "truly inspiring." He told THR, "After meeting him, I knew we had to turn his story into a movie."
Matt Tolmach, Doug Belgrad and DeVon Franklin are overseeing for Columbia.

Having recently met Chef Henderson and talked with him, I must say that is is definitely a movie worthy story. And I think Will Smith will play the part well.
