Washington, DC (M&C) - The 9th Annual DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) closes March 11 with a special appearance by Kiefer Sutherland for the screening of the rockumentary I Trust You To Kill Me. Also attending are director Manu Boyer and producer Pliny Porter.
They will participate in a Q&A after the screening, followed by a special live performance by the band "Rocco DeLuca and The Burden". All events will be held at the DC Moving Image Center at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), 4200 Connecticut Avenue, Auditorium 46.
In the film, Sutherland takes his independent record label act, the band "Rocco DeLuca and the Burden", on its first international tour. From Tokyo to Los Angeles, London, Dublin, Reykjavik and Berlin, this rockumentary chronicles a highly personal journey of a rock band and their less than qualified road manager (Kiefer Sutherland) and shows the hopes, successes and disappointments of a band trying to get their music to their audience.
The film's director, Manu Boyer, takes viewers on a rock tour that becomes much more than the sum of its parts, it is honest and rich, with in-depth life sketches.
The film, Q&A and special live performance by "Rocco DeLuca And the Burden" closes an 11-day run of screenings and live music performances at the DC Independent Film & Music Festival.
One of the premiere festivals for indie films on the East Coast, DCIFF exhibits over 140 films (features, shorts, animations, documentaries, and student) from around the world, and features 30 themed film showcases. This year's showcase themes include Inside Politics/Human Rights, Going Green, Black Filmmakers, Cine Latino, Women's Day, Asian, Life's Curve Balls, Mediterranean, European, Africa, Jewish, Scary Movies, and Reality Bites/Documentaries, among others.
A fifth of the films to be screened are by local DC metro area filmmakers. For some entries, this will be a world premiere. Others have won awards in festivals around the world.
The film festival also includes 7 days of leading industry expert panels, Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, master classes, and the International, and National Advocacy Roundtables and Panels as well as industry breakfasts, VIP receptions, happy hours, opening and closing night galas.
Moviegoers wanting to take a break will enjoy listening to live music provided by the DC Independent Music Festival, also being held at the same UDC venue. With an emphasis on up-and-coming and local artists, the Music Festival presents diverse performances that suit the many genres of films represented.
Additional music will be provided by DJ's at the VIP receptions every evening. Festival attendees will hear jazz, blues, soul, and much more at the music festival.
