According to director Zack Snyder in a recent Sci Fi Wire interview, Scotsman Gerard Butler may sign on to star in the upcoming adaptation of the graphic novel, "Watchmen."
An adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel series, "Watchmen" is set in an alternative 1985, where the world is dangerously close to the brink of nuclear war, and a plot to eliminate a band of ex-superheroes is initiated by unseen forces. It is up to two of those ex-crimefighters to investigate the nefarious plot.
"He may" play a part, Snyder said. Sci Fi pressed him: "I don't know yet, but he's fun, so I'm sure we can figure something out for him."
Snyder also said that he had asked Tom Cruise to consider the role of Ozymandias, but Cruise passed on the idea after giving it a think. The overwhelming chatter at various movie sites is that actor Michael Keaton should be considered for the character of Rorschach.
Who watches the Watchmen? We do. Stay tuned for casting updates for this long in development project that is finally getting some life breathed into it for the big screen.
