I made the mistake of joining the throngs going to see Wild Hogs. As a midddle aged motorcyclist - I found the movie very lacking. They could have done a lot with this cast but it seems to have been written by the same people who write terrible made for TV movie scripts. I predict Wild Hogs ticket sales will fall off sharply. It's too bad they ddidn't maake a greater effort to have a storyline that might keep people awake instead of the predictable pap with a few bad jokes thrown in.
If you've seen the previews, you've seen all of this movie's best parts.
I went and saw this movie yesterday. I didn't know what it was about, and when it comes to Tim Allen lately it's been hit or miss. The shaggy dog and joe somebody both looked funny, but when i went and saw them i was disappointed and it felt as though Tim was holding something back in both. So of course i was a bit nervous about going to see this movie, but i wanted to see a movie and it was a choice between this, bridge to terbithia and zodiac. I decided to give it a chance, despite never seeing a commercial or knowing a single review for it.
What i saw was amazing. The movie started out just downright funny. The sight gags and the cleverly worded jokes were done in a fun way that didn't resort to getting too dirty or crude, as most jokes do in comedies. The story wasn't predictable, but i got the feeling i knew what i wanted to happen and i really felt for the characters and found myself cheering for them when things went their way.
The comedy was first rate and it is the kind of movie that i will buy on dvd when it comes out just so i can watch it again when i need a good laugh or just to escape into a world where four friends can go on a bike road trip away from their lives that didn't work out how they planned or hoped. It just reminds me of the many trips i'd take with my uncles and cousins when i was younger. We'd take our bicycles and some beers and head out for a seventy mile ride to a town made up of mostly bars called geneva on the lake, and we'd spend the weekend bonding and having fun. Drinking and being stupid together. It was always fun, and as i grew older and we'd find ourselves settling into life and toning ourselves down for the sake of relationships and other reasons, we would forget who we really are.. much like the guys in this movie..
I think guys forget and make small concessions to their girlfriends and wives.. and give up a bit each day til they don't know how to be who they really are anymore. I think trips like this, time with just a bunch of friends, brings it back and makes it easier to remember.. and helps us realise that we don't have to stop being who we are in order to have a happy life. In fact life isn't really happy unless we're being who we are and are proud of who we are. I recommend this movie to everyone, and hope it brings a smile to your face and helps you forget life for a while.
