Hot off their win last night for "The Departed," Martin Scorsese and Graham King will next produce "The Young Victoria" to be directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.
"I'm so excited. It's such a unique project, and such amazing people are involved. I feel very privileged," Vallée told Playback Daily.
"The Young Victoria" is written by Academy Award-winning scriptwriter Julian Fellowes who penned Gosford Park, and follows the life of the British Queen in the years immediately after she ascended to the throne in 1837, at age 18.
"The Young Victoria" will also look at the queen's romance with her husband, Prince Albert, and is coproduced by Graham King, who accepted the Oscar last night for "The Departed" and who also produced "Gangs of New York", Oscar winning director Scorsese for "The Departed" and interestingly, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.
Queen Victoria ruled from 1837 to 1901. The cast lead to play her will be Emily Blunt, of "The Devil Wears Prada," according to Production Weekly.
Initial Entertainment and Sikelia Productions will produce the film, and it will be shot in London in the late Summer of 2007.
