Milli Vanilli was a very sad story.....even the duo's childhood was disturbing especially for Rob. Rob tried to commit suicide a few times because of his downfall in the music business. Sadly he finally suceeded. Their story needs to be told to young people who are desperate to get into show business at any costs. People make sure you are honest & your talents warrant merit...

Good basis for a movieFeb 15th, 2007 - 23:06:13

I never understood all the uproar about Milli Vanilli. You paid your $20, got your album or your concert ticket, and you were entertained by the product. So what if the front men didn't actually sing the songs? It's called 'entertainment.'

When I go to a movie about Johnny Cash, and Joaquin Phoenix 'pretends' to be Johnny Cash, people don't jump up and storm out of the theatre demanding money back and yelling 'fraud!' At the end of the day, did you have a good experience, and were you entertained? I have paid more and been entertained less by groups much worse than the Milli Vanilli act.

Even receiving the Grammy - I would argue the two front men accepted it on behalf of the entire Milli Vanilli venture. This is similar to a company president accepting an award from a charity for charitable work done by the company - the company president didn't perform all the charity work, but he gets the award on behalf of everyone who did.

The worst that can be said, and I'm not aware of this but I suspect it happened, is if the two guys were directly asked if they lip-synced and said they did not. But even then, screaming 'fraud' and tarring and feathering these guys is like demanding Major League Baseball pay your $$ back because Jose Canseco said he did not take steroids but actually did.

Tragic story. These two men were punished far more than they deserved.

...he wrote. Everybody knows and knew that Joaquin Phoenix isn't Johnny Cash. Nobody was lying. Milli Vanilli was LYING. That's spelled L-Y-I-N-G. Not 'entertainment'.

I agree
These two men were punished far more than they deserved. They should have hung the producer out to dry - And the record company too. No harm no foul.

I still have my Milli Vanilli album and listen to it sometimes. I still remember the very first time I heard them - about 3am on I-35 near Hillsboro driving from Austin to Dallas. Never heard of them before, never cared to pay atttention to them afterward. Whatever they did, you can blame it on the rain!

This is one of saddest stories in pop history mostly because these poor guys actually became so damn successful & to have it ripped away from them overnight. Milli Vanilli never recovered and tragedy followed. RIP ROB.

First off it's KNOTTY dreads.Secondly Milli Vanilli sucked mega ass and I would never feel sorry for people who get rich by lip-syncing.They might have had to give back their Grammy(which is worthless) but they got to keep their money. And don't give me that sad story crap cause Jimi Hendrix had a sad story,Loretta Lynn had a sad story and look what they did with their lives.I don't feel sorry for people who steal and get caught.

So, did Brittney Spears and her backup band sing every note when she gave a concert? Jessica Simpson? Hillary Duff? Why no outrage over them?

You know, the Monkees never sang their own songs. Maybe everyone should demand their money back from them.

How about when they pipe in prerecorded orchestra background music? Is that lying? I think Pink Floyd used a lot of recorded music in their shows...maybe I should demand my money back there.

How about opera? When some 50 year old German woman pretends to be a 16 year old Japanese girl, should I demand my money back? Isn't she lying?

There is a level of deception in virtually all forms of entertainment, used in order to make a good show, or to ENTERTAIN people.

These two fellows took huge lumps based on their lip-synching, and that was very unfortunate and undeserved.
