The human body has 46 chromosomes, which are paired, in somatic cells. Generative cells have half this number, 23, which is the number of chromosomes each parents gives to human deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Freyja also bore the name Vanadís, which means 'Dís of the Vanir' or 'fair goddess' (väna means beautiful). Vanadium (named after Vanadis) is a chemical element that has the symbol V. V is the Roman numeral 5, 5 = 2 + 3. Did I mention that Vanadium has 23 protons and 23 electrons? Yes Vanadium (V), is chemical element 23 on the periodic table of the elements. Metallic vanadium was isolated by Henry Enfield Roscoe in 1867, who reduced vanadium(III) chloride VCl3 with hydrogen. The name vanadium comes from Vanadis, a goddess in Scandinavian mythology, because the element has beautiful multicolored chemical compounds. So, Vanadium, chemical element 23, was named after the goddess of fertility - well before scientists knew that each parent contributes 23 chromosomes at human DNA.
