'The Departed 2' confirmed

Producer and director Martin Scorsese has been teasing trades with the idea of doing a sequel to “The Departed." Today the Hollywood Reporter confirms the news.
The Reporter confirmed the claims saying that screenwriter William Monahan is working on a follow-up that would bring back the temperamental Dignam, played by Mark Wahlberg, who received an Oscar nomination for the role.
Also alluded would be a new character, to be played by Robert De Niro, who was initially up for the role that Martin Sheen ended up playing in the first film.
The sequel will be written as an original story.
