'Jumper' crew member killed on set

Yesterday a crew member was killed on sci-fi film set, "Jumper" wrapping up filming in Toronto. The movie stars Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson, and is currently in Tokyo for two weeks finishing production.

Set dresser David Ritchie was killed Thursday after being struck by frozen debris in a freak accident. He was pronounced dead on the scene after a large piece of frozen gravel fell from the top of a wall at an outdoor set that he and three crew members were dismantling. Monsters called the production offices today in Toronto and verified that another crew member was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and kept overnight for observation."On behalf of the entire production, it is with profound sadness that we confirm this tragic accident," read a statement from Jumper Prods. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to David Ritchie's family and all of those affected at this time."Ritchie, who was 56, was loved by the crew, and they are devasted by this news. Doug Liman is directing, Barry Peterson is serving as DP, and Oliver Scholl is production designer. Hilton Rosemarin and Cynthia Slater are both set decorators, in the same art department that Ritchie worked in.
