Clive Owen to star in noir Marlowe film

"Children of Men" star Clive Owen will be cast to play the stylish literary character, the quietly philosophical Philip Marlowe, private eye, according to Variety.

English actor Clive Owen - you're welcome EPA/CLAUDIO ONORATIUnderneath the wisecracking, hard drinking, tough private eye, Marlowe is complex, enjoying chess and poetry. Violence is not his modus operandi, and he exhibits keen radar and restraint with the genre's femme fatales, like Carmen Sternwood in The Big Sleep. Author Chandler wrote about his detective ideal in general, "I think he might seduce a duchess, and I am quite sure he would not spoil a virgin."

Strike has made a deal to get rights to a Chandler mystery series that includes "The Big Sleep" and "Farewell My Lovely".

The project is in the early development stage, producers are seeking writers and filmmakers, and the title to adapt is still floating according to Variety.

The plan is to keep Marlowe in the original noir spirit of the Chandler books, and the setting authentic to the 1940s in Los Angeles.
