The word is bubbling around town that Sam Raimi, of the "Spider-Man" and "Quick and the Dead" fame is being cited as the possible director of "The Hobbit" if the project moves forward.
The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy fan base were dealt a blow when director Peter Jackson was severed from "The Hobbit" project.
Now Page Six and Ain't It Cool News are both posting the favorite pick currently is Raimi. Allegedly Raimi was approached by New Line Cinema late last year about doing the "Rings" prequel, but no deal was struck. No word from Raimi's camp yet.
Harry Knowles, producer and editor of aintitcoolnews.com, said even though Raimi's name has been thrown into the mix, "Without Peter and Ian McKellan, who stated he won't do it unless Peter directs, I don't think anybody wants to see a 'Hobbit' film. At this juncture, it's on the shakiest of grounds."
Litigation woes over profits from the "Rings" films severed the relationship between New Line and exec. Bob Shaye who said publicly he wouldn't work with Jackson again.

This seriously cannot be happening. I cannot imagine that 'that guy' could go so far as to actually screw up the chance of giving millions of fans what they really want - a Hobbit helmed by Peter Jackson & co.
Obviously 'that guy' does not care about the emotional aspect of The Hobbit and he's publicly showing it by not rewarding Peter Jackson for his work on The Lord of the Rings. For after all, what greater reward could PJ ask for than to complete the work on the Tale of the Ring that he began 10 years ago?
I thought wisdom came with age. Apparently that's not the norm... 'that guy' could obviously do with a councellor right now... before he makes a stupid decision on the Hobbit that we'll have to bear with.
And hey 'that guy', since you seem to have lost your senses or whatever, the 'that guy' I'm referring to is you - Mr.Shaye.
P.S.: The next time you refer to Peter Jackson, have some decency and respect and call him by his name...not 'that guy'.
And someone please rid us of this stupidity!!!
I do respect you Mr.Shaye, but you're falling in rank PJ is rapidly rising. Can't you guys put aside this nonsense and just make a great Hobbit film together?
Now that'd be wisdom (Mr.Shaye...???), reward (Peter Jackson & Co.) and a great happily-ever-after (for the fans of course).
