Actors Ewan McGregor and Richard Griffiths have joined the voice cast of the World War II spoof "Jackboots On Whitehall" written and directed by Edward McHenry and produced by Swipe Films.
"Jackboots on Whitehall" uses stop-motion action figures with voices provided by a solidly British cast, and explores what would happen if the Battle of Britain had been won by the Germans, reports Variety.
McGregor will take the lead role as a heroic Scottish farmhand who leads the resistance against the invaders, and wins the girl, Rosamund Pike.
"It's Team America in style and tone but without the strings," Swipe’s Frank Mannion said to Variety. "We are using specially made Action Man type action figures, and purpose built models of Hadrian's Wall, Downing Street, etc. It is a tribute to the script's originality and to Edward's directorial vision that we have assembled such a starry British cast lending us their extraordinary vocal and comedic talents.”
Griffiths will play the Luftwaffe leader Hermann Goering. The project is the feature debut of director Edward McHenry, who co-wrote the script with his brother Rory.
Timothy Spall provides the voice of Winston Churchill, while Adolf Hitler is played by Alan Cumming, with the rest of the cast including Tom Wilkinson and Richard O'Brien.
