Depp's films in various stages of development include "Shantaram," the Gregory David-Roberts and Eric Roth penned script which has Depp attached to star in. Depp's character Lindsay arrives in Mumbai after escaping from an Australian prison where he was serving a 19-year sentence for drug related armed robberies.
In Mumbai, he meets Prabhakar who takes him to his native village where the locals relaunch his criminal career as Shantaram in the city's underworld. The director is still to be announced, and at one point was rumored to be director Peter Weir.
"Inamorata" is another Depp production in development that has Peter Medak attached as director, and is about the roaring 1920's, when spiritualism was hot, and the population was enamored of seances, Ouija boards, palm readings and metaphysics.
A Harvard grad, Martin Finch, is sent by Scientific American to examine society psychic Mina Crawley, but falls for Mina in a dark thriller of a tale, according to Production Weekly.
The "Affected Provincial's Companion" is also in newly in development for Depp's Infinitum Nihil shingle, and details the life of Lord Whimsy. In an attempt to live as beautifully as his modest means will allow, Whimsy dwells in former army barracks in a small rural town in the New Jersey Pine Barrens for twelve years.
Whimsy creates for himself a garden-choked aesthete's outpost filled with books, animals, and artwork. He regularly posts on an online journal, where he discusses topics as diverse as carnivorous plants, moustache grooming, French nineteenth-century cameo glass vases, and the great Wallace Shawn.
The book was written, designed and illustrated by Breaulove Swells Whimsy, "The Affected Provincial’s Companion, Volume One" is an artifact of the life Whimsy led, the work is filled with hyperbolic essays and meticulous philosophical diagrams, reports Production Weekly.
Lastly, the most recent Depp production news involves the recent death of Alexander Litvinenko, and Warner Bros. and Infinitum Nihil teaming up in a race against Sony and director Michael Mann to bring the deceased spy's tale to the big screen.
