More than 20 nations line up for Berlin youth film fest

Berlin - More than 20 feature films, including three world premieres and ten international premieres, from 22 countries are to compete in next month's Berlin Film Festival's young people's movie section, the Berlinale announced Friday. This includes movies from Thailand, Korea, Israel, France, Latvia and Australia. The Generation Kplus section (previously known as the Kinderfilmfest) will open on February 9 with the international premiere of fantasy adventure The Last Mimzy by American filmmaker Robert Shaye. He was also producer of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Together with child actors, Rhiannon Leigh Wryn and Chris O'Neil, Shaye will be joined at the screening of the film by leading American actor Timothy Hutton, who plays the father in the movie. Hutton is also playing in Robert de Niro's The Good Shepherd, which is part of the line-up for the film festival's main competition. Among the movies to be shown in the Generation section is Hungarian director Csaba Bollok's Iszka Utazasa (Iska's Journey), which takes cinema goers on a trip into the harsh reality of life for children on the streets, Thai director Songyos Sugmakanan's Dek Hor (Dorm) and Ice Keh-ki (Ice Bar) by Korea's Yeo In-gwang. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
