The time and setting is 1960 Connecticut and a young Arthur - played by Freddie Highmore and his kind grandmother - played Mia Farrow are solo sans Arthur's parents or his vanished Grandfather Archibald.A ruthless developer (is there ever any other kind?) presents deep-in-debt granny (Happy Gilmore?) with papers making him the property owner. Arthur rises to the threat and helps save Gran's house from the evil opportunist.

As a result of France's boffo box office, Variety confirms the two sequels are now officially in the works with "Arthur and the Vengeance of Malthazar" set for 2009 and "Arthur and the War of Two Worlds" in 2010.The sequels are based on volumes three and four from the book series; the first "Arthur" film is a combination of the stories in the first two books.
