Apocalypto breaks UK box-office record

Mel Gibson may be moving to London. Well not really but seems movie going blokes in UK like his movies, especially ‘Apocalypto’ which this past weekend broke the foreign-language pic box-office record.
The UK rated 18 film drew $2,625,689 from 385 screens across the country beating the ’04 release of Hero which pulled in $1.94 million its first week.
Released independently by Icon Pictures, Apocalypto was up against some other heavy films in its opening including Miss Potter" (Momentum), "Employee of the Month" (Lionsgate U.K.) and "White Noise: The Light" (Entertainment).
Seems Brits have come to like foreign language fare also giving the nod to ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ which in its seven weeks of release has pulled in a hefty $3,643,896
Apocalypto which received a mixed bag of reviews stateside has been fairly well received by British film critics.
Movie has in its five weeks of release in the USA taken in $47,335,193.
