Daniel Craig is on a huge roll, and the rumor is he just may become part of director J.J. Abrams cast in the upcoming "Star Trek XI."
Craig is hot off of the biggest grossing James Bond film of all time, "Casino Royale," and the blue eyed devil "Munich" star is feeling like invading a distinctly American institution, but as which icon? The passionate Captain Kirk, or icy-cool Spock?
"I would love a stint in the TV show or in a film," Craig recently told the World Entertainment News Network about Star Trek. "It's been a secret ambition of mine for years."
Many fans and critics have said that Star Trek, if it were to be remade, would need some significant star power, and rumors swirled online about the possibility of Matt Damon.
Craig is currently confirmed cast as Bond once again, to reappear in the next James Bond film, the 22nd in the franchise.
Craig has a sci-fi-like project coming up this year, starring along with Nicole Kidman in "The Invasion" directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, a remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" where a mysterious epidemic sweeps the world.
Rainer Klausmann served as cinematographer, and 2001 Oscar nom (Quills) Jacqueline West, was costume designer. West is currently on Brad Pitt's film in production, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and also did extraordinary work on Terrence Malick's "The New World."
"Star Trek XI" is still in the script phase, and Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot, the production company, are both mum about any cast choices thusfar.
Stay tuned.
