The Producers Guild (PGA) has rejected Paramount head Brad Grey's attempt to receive a producing credit on Warner Bros' 'The Departed,' a movie the former manager was "instrumental" in putting together before taking his current job at the Paramount. Reports the Los Angeles Times.
According to PGA rules, executives who work for a studio or financier of a film can't earn a "Produced by" credit unless they "demonstrate a commitment of time and resources to the production of such significance that such commitment is tantamount to taking a leave of absence from his/her executive duties."
Grey had begun his new top gig at Paramount just as the production of 'The Departed' was getting under way, leaving PGA pundits to question how much of Grey's focus was actually on the movie.
Paramount has several Best Picture hopefuls, 'Dreamgirls' and 'Babel' that would be head to head with Warner Bros. 'The Departed' if the bets are accurate for this year's Awards.
Grey can appeal the PGA decision, and on thebright side, he was nominated as a producer on HBO's "The Sopranos" - one of the PGA's Best TV Drama contenders nominees.
