Oh no! Disney is having second thoughts on its June ’07 release of the animated ‘Ratatouille.’
Mixed critical reviews and the moderate take of its ‘Cars’ release earlier this year ($244.1 million) and other animated films has spooked Disney marketing execs who reportedly are unsure of who their market is for the Brad Garrett (voice) starrer.
2006 also saw glut of animated releases: Fox’s ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown’ ($195.3 million) and ‘Everyone’s Hero’ ($14.5 million), WB’s ‘Happy Feet’ ($179.6 million) and ‘The Ant Bully’ ($28.1 million) , Paramount/Dreamworks ‘Over the Hedge’ ($155 million), ‘Flushed Away’ (61.7 million) and ‘Barnyard: The Original Party Animals’ ($72.6 million), Sony’s ‘Open Season’ ($84.3 million) and’ Monster House’ ($73.6 million), Universal’s ‘Curious George’ ($58.3 million), Buena Vista’s ‘The Wild” ($37.4 million).
‘Ratatouille’ tells the rather sophisticated (for an animated film) tale of a young rat living within the walls of a famous Paris bistro who wishes to become a chef, but is hindered by his family's skepticism and the rat-despising staff and patrons.
