NO NO NO- I want to See Jamie Fox Play that roleJan 5th, 2007 - 16:09:31

I think Jamie Fox is a better candidate. After his performance in Ray, I think he can take on this role.

I think Sam has the range and the life experience to play the part. Usher is a little too feminine to play it and none of the movies he's been in have done that well. He should just keep doing his music videos and leave the acting to some actors

Samuel L. Jackson would be a much better candidate for the role than Jamie Foxx. Foxx has had his 15 mins. and now people should start to notice that he is not all he's cracked up to be. Jackson is more seasoned and looks more like James Brown than Foxx.

Eddie Murphy should play him!Jan 5th, 2007 - 18:32:10

Eddie Murphy plays a JB look-a-like in Dreamgirls. With a little work (and a wig) Eddie would be a perfect James Brown!

It would be a great role for Usher because he can dance and sing really well and he could portray a great 'Entertainment James' However, Jamie is the best at studying a character and bringing that person to life, in other words Jamie would be the better actor... and Samuel L. Jackson is a Pro. The name Samuel L. Speaks for itself and he is one of the best out there. I would have to select,
'Jamie Foxx'... -Ms. Kim

With all due respect, James Brown was not a very attractive man. Usher is too 'pretty' and too soft to play that part unless they use a lot of makeup and imagination. Sam Jackson is too tall. Jamie played Ray Charles too good to turn around and play James so soon. It would possibly confuse the audiance. Eddie Murphy played a good James Brown on Saturday Night Live. However, everything Eddie plays reminds me of Donkey from Shrek. Even in Dreamgirls he reminds me of Donkey. Maybe they should cast a new and upcoming actor to play the role. Hold a casting call and start fresh.

This role totally would be a disater with Usher he's not proven himself enough to take on a role that requires this level of transforming. Jamie Foxx has the right body stature and has proven himself as an excellent actor, but he has already done Ray he does not need to reincarnate another soul legend. Someone like Andre 3000 would be a good candidate he's just a little to skinny. Taye Diggs probably could pull it off, but he has a tendency to get tiresome to watch.

They ought to send out a casting call and make about 8000 men audition for the role. Then they should give it to someone who looks like James Brown, talks like him (he couldn't half talk anyway, but I still loved him!!!) and teach him to act and let him lip sync. Hell, how many non-actors and singers do they have playing characters that they have to embellish to play these roles anyway?

I agree with STLgirl. Start fresh. Saturday Night Live will always be around as Eddie's Hay days and his tribute to James Brown minus the goofy smile. Jaime...well, he's obviously talented but, his role of Ray Charles cannot be understated...true life characters should end there for awhile for him. Usher is too young and soft for an older role of that magnitude...I mean even Chris Brown can dance...so what else does Usher have?? Casting call....please.

Are you serious? Usher? Samuel L.? Never. If you haven't seen Dreamgirls, you're missing out on seeing Eddie Murphy showcase his abilities. His character Jimmy is obviously modeled after 'The Godfather of Soul'. If Eddie doesn't play the part, I think i'd wait till it comes out on video, or maybe cable to see it. Eddie is the way to go.

I mean he is a very talented actor/vocalist don't get me wrong. But after all like you said he was Ray Charles in 'Ray'.So the entire time you watch the story of James Brown all you would think about is when is he going to start playing the electric piano and twitching. And you might even say 'hey I thought he was blind'.Like I said he is a very talented person however I don't believe he has the force behind him like Samuel Jackson.I mean think about it, you can actually hear Sam saying....Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud.

After reviewing all the comments, I am at loss of words. I do like Sam Jackson, but to do a James Brown portrayal... I don't think that would be a good idea. I think after the 'Snakes in a Plane' he should just really sit back and truly 'evaluate' what roles will help make his career prosper. I mean seriously... who saw Snakes in a Plane after ground-breaking roles in such movies as Negotiator, Pulp Fiction and the unforgettable line of '...and I hope they burn in hell...!!!' from the movie A Time to Kill. Seriously, Sam I love you and I give you much respect but to do James Brown may be....umm...questionable. And Jamie Foxx... hell-to-the-no. (No offense). He has just done Ray and for him to turn around and do James may have critics debating on who he played better and it may break his career if he doesn't do it well. So, ...no. :-) But on a lighter note, I think that Eddie Murphy- (& I can't believe I'm saying this) but despite his Shrek Donkey roles, I really think that he could play it off. Usher and Chris Brown and young kids. Despite they can dance, but James Brown's role does require someone with acting talent. However, we all shall see how the movie turns out.

Usher should never try to act again. He is pathetic. I'm sure that there is someone out there with alot of talent. The industry should give someone else a shot. They are making everything boring using the same actors. They should use the technolgy and find the best beauty supply store to get the hair from. Spike Lee better have the hair lookin exact.

I believe that Ushers name should not be in the same sentence as acting. The producers should let the light shine on someone new. See what happened when they used Jennifer Hudson. But who ever plays James better turn the movie theater out. Make it be nominated for something.

I'm gonna make this short and sweet.Neither Sam Jackson or Usher Raymond would
be good candidates for James Brown. The closest actors out there remotely resembling him would be Don Cheadle or Tim Meadows.Start with them.If neither can pull off the acting aspects of the part, then start over new with a casting call.Just my humble opinion.

God forbid Jamie Foxx landed the role. His head hasn't deflated from when he starred in Ray. I believe Samuel L. Jackson is a great pick to play James Brown. I agree Usher is too young and feminine as well as he's just not that good of an actor. The only other choice would be Eddie Murphy. He played James Brown on Saturday Night Live earlier in his stand up career and did a hell of a job.

HE DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE TO PLAY THE FUNNY GUY NOR DOES HE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE FAMILY MOVIE SIDE. I KNOW IT MAY KEEP MONEY IN HIS POCKET. Re: Comments from JB and Pretty Brown Eyes: It does not matter if the actor looks like or is the same height as the person they are portraying. Denzel neither looked like or was the same height as Malcohm X, and we saw the performance he brought in. Jamie didn't exactly look like Ray. The Phoenix guy(River Phoenix's brother) didn't look like Johnny Cash, and Reese Witherspoon doesn't look like June. Jeffrey Wright did Martin on HBO, and looks nothing like Martin. His performance was great as well. Nine times out of ten the actor or actress that portrays a real person in history doesn't look that much like the person they are playing. All that matters is how good of an actor or actress the person is. My thing about Sam is I don't he can sing, not that that means a great deal these days, and he doesn't have a history of roles where he's able to use a different voice than his normal one.

I think Jamie Fox is more fit for the role, than Jackson. I just think Samuel don't fit the profile to play James Brown. Usher would be okay also two the play the role, because he has the moves. When you think about it, Usher has the voice and moves, although he is a little girlish. Seeing Samuel L. Jackson trying to dance like james brown with his tall self is not something I would want to see.

Sam Jackson is so wrong for this part. I hope he proves me wrong. He is a good actor to be sure, but he will also need to become an excellent musician. Can he do that in so short a period of time? One of the reasons Jamie was so good at nailing Ray is because he is also a musician. I don't want to see Jamie do the role either however. It's time to give someone else a chance. Actually, I think Eddie Murphy would be good (he at least has good musical background) and it's time for him to prove he's oscar caliber as well.
