New Line has chosen scribe Bruce Joel Rubin to rewrite the long in development sci-fi romance "The Time Traveler's Wife," directed by Robert Schwentke, reports Daily Variety.
Chicago librarian, Henry DeTamble, has a rare genetic disorder known as "Chrono-Impairment" which causes him to involuntarily travel through time. Unable to control when he leaves, where he goes, or how long his trip will last, with all his eventual destinations tied to his subconscious memory.
Stresses can trigger time travel for Henry, who uses running as a way of keeping his mind calm and remaining in the present.
In the acclaimed Audrey Niffenegger novel, Henry cannot take anything with him in his "travels" - even fillings in his teeth are left behind. He must scramble while "travelling" to find clothing, shelter, and food without getting beaten up or arrested. He learns survival skills including pick-pocketing, lock-picking, and hones his fighting skills to allow him to get by without the barest of necessities. Henry also meets his Clare.
The film is being produced by Brad Pitt and his Plan B company. Rachel McAdams is rumored to be considered for the role of Henry's love, Clare.
New Line studios is scheduling a 2008 release.
