The Good Shepherd, currently released and starring Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro and Angelina Jolie, had a close call in one scene with one of the supporting actors while filming.
Actor Matt Damon, according to reports in Us Weekly, is credited with quick thinking and saving the life of his Shepherd co-star Mark Ivanir during the filming of a torture scene. Damon's suggestion being Ivanir could wave a warning sign should things get out of hand.
The scene, directed by Robert De Niro, has Ivanir's naked character held down, before a bag is placed over his head and he is covered with freezing water. Thanks to Damon's prescient cautions to the production crew and director, Ivanir believes he would have wound up dead otherwise.
"Matt told me, 'We should have a warning sign if you feel like you're really in danger. You really could get hurt with that mask suffocating your face. Sure enough, if Matt hadn't thought of an alert to stop filming, I really would have passed out and died. It would have been great publicity for the film, but not so good for my career!" Said a grateful Ivanir to Us Weekly.
