Robert Rodriguez does Madman

The Dimension shingle, topped by co-chairman Bob Weinstein (of the Weinstein Company) has tapped Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan via their Troublemaker Studios to produce the Michael Allred created comic book ‘Madman’ for the big screen.

Madman is a post modernist Frankenstein tale with a twist. The main character is killed in a car accident, “born again” by an eccentric doctor who names him Frank Einstein and gives him psychic powers, expanded senses and exceptional strength. Frank still has many scars and wears a costume modeled from his favorite super-hero to hide is disfigurement. George Huang (‘Swimming with Sharks) will direct and co-write screenplay with Michael Allred. Rodriguex has known Huang since his debut film, "El Mariachi."Rodriguez, who is readying a "Sin City" sequel, will use a similar template with ‘Madman.’He just wrapped ‘Planet Terror,’ his half of Dimension's ‘Grindhouse,’ to be released April 6 2007. Quentin Tarantino, who's directing the second half, "Death Proof," will finish shooting in January.
