Bangkok, Thailand (M&C) -- With rumors and gossip swirling about its fate since the Military Coup and change in Thai government in October, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) confirmed today despite an unusual budget situation, the Bangkok International Film Festival (BkkIFF) will be held January 26th through February 4, 2007 as originally planned. The exact venue is under consideration, but will still be in downtown Bangkok.
While the new government reviews ministry budgets and with a change in the head of the Tourism Authority imminent, TAT also announced that it is not renewing its management and consulting service agreement with Beverly Hills based event management company Film Festival Management, Inc. (FFM).
TAT has worked for several years with FFM in elevating its regional festival to a world-class event.
BkkIFF is an annual 10-day event that showcases international films to Thailand and platforms Asian and Thai films to the rest of the world.
In its 5th year of operation, with a popular series of workshops and seminars on film making, BkkIFF is one of the largest festivals in Asia.
TAT Festival Director Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya said, “Both TAT and FFM still maintain a close and friendly relationship of mutual respect and there is a possibility of us collaborating on future festivals”.
In response to the news, FFM International Director, Gary Dartnall stated; “While tremendously disappointed that we will be unable to take the Bangkok International Film Festival to the new heights that we planned for 2007, we are grateful to the Thai government for the years of support and the wonderful relationship we share. We wish TAT and the festival staff nothing but success and look forward to working again with them in the future.”
