Bond premiere brings together Queen and spy

London - The world has waited four years for the newest Bond to hit screens, and apparently so has Queen Elizabeth II, who appeared Tuesday night in London's Leicester Square for the world premiere of Casino Royale.

Based on the very first book in Ian Fleming's James Bond series, Casino Royal takes movie-goers back to the early career of Britain's most famous spy, including his promotion to 00 status, which gave him a licence to kill. The 21st instalment of the Bond franchise stars Daniel Craig - a controversial choice to replace Pierce Brosnan as 007, given his blond locks (a first) and rather upbeat character. Craig is only the second Englishman to take up the role, beating out Colin Farrell, Clive Owen and Hugh Jackman to win the part. Asked how he compared to the five Bonds that came before him, he replied, 'It's not up to me to compare them ... I just tried to make a good movie.' Both the Queen and Craig were cheered in equal measure by hundreds of cheering fans as they took to the red carpet Tuesday night. New Bond girl Eva Green and Judi Dench, who plays M, were among many co- stars taking in the ovation, while celebrities Sir Elton John, Sting and Paris Hilton also turned out for the premiere.
