LOS ANGELES, CA USA (M&C) --Twentieth Century Fox has partnered with Women & Wine®, to host special screenings of ‘A Good Year’ the week of October 30 in 14 USA markets.
‘A Good Year’ and Women & Wine are a good match: the film presents Russell Crowe as a high-powered businessman who moves to Provence (France) to sell a small vineyard he has inherited from his late uncle.
He reluctantly settles into what ultimately becomes an intoxicating new chapter in his life, as he comes to realize that life is meant to be savored.
Ridley Scott, with whom Crowe collaborated on ‘Gladiator,’ helms the picture, much of which was shot on location in Provence.
‘A Good Year’ is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Peter Mayle.
“We saw immediately that ‘A Good Year’s wine-centric setting and themes would be fun for us to work with,” says Julie Brosterman, founder and CEO of Women & Wine. “That’s why we decided to showcase authentic wines from Provence at our screening receptions.”
Women & Wine will also pour rosé and red wines from Domaine Houchart, a vineyard often visited by Cezanne, located at the foot of Mount St Victoire, as well as Les Artemes 2003, a red wine from Domaine de la Citadelle, an estate owned by French movie producer Yves Rousset-Rouard.
“The irony is that Rousset-Rouard, who is a good friend of ‘A Good Year’ author Peter Mayle, once owned the rights to Mayle’s novel,” says Brosterman.
Even prior to that, over a bottle of Provençal wine, Mayle (who lives full-time in Provence) and filmmaker Ridley Scott (who has a vacation home and vineyard there) came up with the idea for Mayle’s novel. Years later, things came full circle when Scott obtained the film rights.
‘A Good Year’ opens in the UK october 27 and in USA theaters November 10.
