Pusan film fest spreads its wings in USA

The recently held Pusan (Korea) International Film Festival will spread its wings and feature a selection of Korean and Asian films on cable TV in Los Angeles during the first half of 2007.On a whirlwind tour of Asia, Los Angles Major Antonio Villaraigosa made a short stop in Pusan at the tail end of the Fest to give support to the new initiative and to mark the 40th anniversary of the sister relationship between the two cities.Thanks to a new strategic relationship between PIFF and the JoongAng Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), a bloc of time will be purchased on the JBC owned Q Channel and a selection of PIFF films will be broadcast.PIFF rights to broadcast films was not discussed.The full launch of a cable channel in Korea to be called the PIFF Channel is expected to be realized within two-three years.JBC also announced launch of a $52,000 annual fund to support the production of Korean and Asian documentaries, in return for future broadcast rights.
