LOS ANGELES, CA (M&C) -- ImaginAsian Entertainment, a multimedia entertainment company, has branched out into theatrical distribution with two recent feature acquisitions.
Earlier this year, they picked up for theatrical release the Korean erotic thriller ‘Green Chair’ after a Sundance play date. ‘Green Chair’ a romantic drama about an ordinary housewife convicted for seducing a minor, was directed by Cheol-su Park.
Group’s second acquisition for theatrical release is another Sundance pic, ‘Journey From the Fall,’ the story of a family of Vietnamese refugees who flee to America after the Vietnam war helmed by Ham Tran.
“All too often, many great Asian and Asian American films never receive distribution here in the U.S,” says David Chu, SVP of programming and production at ImaginAsian TV. “ImaginAsian Entertainment is committed to distributing these important and engaging films, and is especially excited to be distributing Ham Tran’s remarkable Journey from the Fall. This is an epic film that will resonate with American audiences because it depicts another side of the Vietnam War that is not well known – the fate of the Vietnamese people who opposed and tried to escape from Communist rule.”
“Journey is a film that the Vietnamese diaspora in Australia, France, Germany, Canada, and the U.S. have been waiting for a long time to see,” says director Ham Tran. “It is a definitive refugee saga that they can pass on to their children and grandchildren. We are excited to sign with ImaginAsian because they understand how important this film is, not only to the Vietnamese community, but for wider audiences as well.”
ImaginAsia has also started up a home entertainment arm and acquired rights for release of “Journey.”
“Journey” will have a limited USA release in spring 2007 in cities with large Vietnamese communities.
