Weekend box-office preview: Kutcher vs. Kutcher
By Scott Rosenberg Sep 29, 2006, 9:01 GMT

Its live action Kutcher against cartoon Kutcher this weekend in a head-on race at the box-office.
Staring with Kevin Costner on 3,241 screens is the real live Ashton Kutcher in Buena Vista’s ‘The Guardian’.
Kutcher plays a cocky young Coast Guard recruit who undergoes training from a renowned Coast Guard swimmer (Kevin Costner).

A come-back film for Costner after being panned in such films as ‘3000 Miles to Graceland’ (2001) and ‘Dragonfly’ (2003), as he transitions from leading man to roles more befitting an older movie star.
Costner stars next in Bruce A. Evans’ (‘Stand by Me’ screenplay, 1986) ‘Mr. Brooks’ which will be released in 2007.
As the fast-talking mule deer Elliot in ‘Open Season,’ Sony Pictures’ first animated feature, Aston Kutcher’s voice will charm in 3,833 locations as he goes head on against himself in ‘The Guardian’.

Kutcher’s character teams up with a 900 pound domesticated grizzly bear (Martin Lawrence) to rally forest animals as an army against human hunters who have entered their wooded home.
