Madrid - Spanish Oscar©-winning director Pedro Almodovar's 16th film 'Volver '(To Return) will compete for next year's Oscar© for the best non-English-language film, the Spanish Cinema Academy decided Thursday.
Almodovar has already been awarded Oscars for 'All about My Mother 'as the best non-English-language film in 1999 and for 'Talk to Her' as the best script in 2003.
'Volver 'is a dramatic comedy starring Penelope Cruz, set in Almodovar's home region of La Mancha. It was awarded the film critics' Fipresci Prize at the ongoing San Sebastian Film Festival.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences still needs to accept Volver as an official candidate in the race for the Oscars.
