Robert De Niro to play mobster, again!
By M&C News Sep 17, 2006, 3:24 GMT
Robert De Niro and his Tribeca Films shingle partner Jane Rosenthal have tapped writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien (‘Ocean’s Thirteen’) to adapt “The Winter of Frankie Machine”, a novel by Don Winslow for the big screen.
Movie will be produced by Tribeca Films and Paramount Pictures.
Familiar themed pic is about a mob hit man who gave up the game for a quiet life as the proprietor of a bait shop. When the son of a mob boss asks Frankie’s backup to help resolve a dispute with another Mafioso, he agrees, only to find he's been set up for a hit.
And in a move which further typecasts De Niro in the mobster role – he will star.
No word on release date.
