Director Luc Besson to call it quits after next film

Paris - French director Luc Besson said Monday that his next film, the animated feature Arthur and the Minimoys, will be his last. 'That's my last film. I'm proud of the ten films I've made ... I love them all,' Besson told RTL radio during a lengthy interview. The director of The Fifth Element, Subway and The Big Blue said he would devote much of his time to a foundation he planned to create to help the young residents of France's poor suburbs. 'I want to concern myself a little with my fellow citizens,' the 47-year-old Besson said. 'This seems normal to me ... to begin giving to others.' Besson is better known as a producer of some of France's most successful films, as well as a number internationally packaged movies, such as Bandidas, with Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayek, and The Transporter. It was unclear Monday if he would eventually cease all of his film activities. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
