Richard Gere arrives in Bosnia to film part of Karadzic movie
Sep 9, 2006, 15:40 GMT
Sarajevo - Hollywood movie star Richard Gere arrived Saturday in Sarajevo to start filming a new movie about catching war criminals in Bosnia.
'I expect to learn a lot here,' Gere told reporters. 'Spring Break in Bosnia' sees Gere, along with Terrence Howard and Jesse Eisenberg, playing the part of a reporter who covered 1992-1995 war and then returns to try to catch the most wanted war crimes suspect, former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
Karadzic, wanted by The Hague-based UN War Crimes Tribunal for war crimes and genocide during the 1992-1995 war, remains at large more than 11 years after the indictment was raised against him.
More than 150 members of the crew arrived in the capital earlier this week for 10 days of filming expected to start Monday. The rest of the film will be shot in Croatia.
Local producers in Sarajevo confirmed the filming in Sarajevo would include some of the most beautiful old parts of the city, as well as downtown streets and the airport.
Casting for extra actors were also conducted in Sarajevo prior to the crew's arrival.
'Spring Break in Bosnia' with a budget believed to be over 20 million dollars is the first big US movie to be partially filmed in Bosnia.

Hey there, Bosnian for life, learn some English, will you, or stop leaving comments that support all those jokes about Bosnians being stupid (you know: Mujo i Haso). I have nothing against Allah and you, but I lament the sad condition of those Bosnian parts where people who supposedly adore Allah rule.
you need to get on somewhere!! Allah is the greatest!!!!!!!!! Bosnia is the best country in this whole world.
I'm glad that they're making a movie about the war that happened in Bosnia. It's an untold tragedy that many people are not familiar with.
I can't wait to watch this with my family. We're Bosnian Catholics (Croatians) and we're so anxious to see how everything that happened during the war will be portrayed. Looking past some of the destruction that is still left from the war, Bosnia is truly one of the most scenic countries in the world. I'm so proud of my home.
Bosnia here and there and everywhere. Dont try to make Bosnia a muslim country, when its not.
And did you know that 'boshniak' means 'empty head' on turkish. The slavic people who converted to islam during the ottoman empire, where stupid and easy to deceive. So be proud of your heritage, and dont forget that the rest of the muslim world are laughing at you!
Love from Sweden
Josh for your information Bosnia is a muslim country... dumb ass....
jebem vam mater svima da bog da crkli picka vam materina!
hey 'SRBIN' don't be unpolite.
halo srbine ne budi nekulturan
Smrt qetnicima i svim srbima i njihovim prijateljima. Ziveo U S A united states of ALBANIA. UCK.
What took place in Bosnia throughout its history can be seen in many ways as tragic especially the more recent events between '92 and '95; I say tragic not because majority of affected poeple by the war and genocide were muslims but because all people affected by the war were just regular people who tried to live their lives beyond the boundaries of religion, politics, and nationalism. This movie in a way attempted to give justice to all who have suffered through the priceless losses in the big mess. The debate about who started the war and its backgrounds and roots to it would be endless but is needed as long as its a healthy debate that makes us move forward and leaves the antipathy behind.
Continuing the 'war' through comments that devide people further away is meaningless and its bound to erupt the same devastating events else where so lets not insult each other and add pepper and salt to the wounds of all who have and are still suffering from the war.
Josh, the translation of Bosniaks from Turkish does not mean 'empty head' as you have it perceived, but even if it meant that then you need to call folks in most other countries in the world, specifically the European countries including your own, empty heads as well for the fastest growing religion is Islam. Never let extremes sides of anything dictate your perception and view of peoples. Germany in the 30's, 40's with Nazism was the root of most evil in Europe but look where they are today and the dependence of Europe on Germany. Suddenly German people are not associated with Nazism as they used to be you don't call them empty heads even though on the eve of the 19 century Germany had the most educated population in the world yet they fell for the 'doctrine' of Hitler for other reasons than being empty heads.
