New category of Resistance film created for Alexandria festival

Cairo - A new resistance film category has been created by organizers of the international film festival to be held in the Egyptian port of Alexandria September 5-10, reports said Wednesday. Chairman of the Egyptian Union of Directors and Film Critics, Mamdouh al Leithy, said in Cairo on Wednesday that 10 of the 45 films in the festival's competition belonged to this category. Out of the 10 films, which deal with the conflict in the Middle East, four come from the Palestinian region, three from Lebanon, two from Syria and one from Morocco. Many Arab cultural figures have protested against the Israeli offensive in Lebanon and in the Gaza Strip over the past couple of months. The conflict between the Hezbollah and Israel has also inspired several Arab musicians to record patriotic songs. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
