I will tell you exactly why the film did not go over as well as they had hoped.
It was not good. It was Bland. It was boring. It was not Super at all.
Take Spider Man for example. Villains. He fights bad guys with powers.
That's what people want to see. A match up. If they added space elements
they would get STAR WARS fans. In the next Super Man film He along with several other super Powered people should ward off an alien invasion.
There...then you would have Super heroes against an army of super villains you would have space you would have The Martian Manhunter locking up with some other alien head to head.
Take a look at all the top grossing Sci Fi films from the last 15 years.
combine all those elements...you have a hit.
