And Ben said to Matt - 'Live long and prosper!'

One of the stranger news stories making the rounds this week: Matt Damon has been tapped to play the new Captain James Kirk in JJ Abrams version of ‘Star Trek’.
Abrams has apparently approached Damon to play Kirk in the new version of the franchise which will follow Kirk and his Vulcan friend Spock during their early years at the space academy.
Casting doubt on the partnership is film director Kevin Smith who directed Damon and his buddy Ben Affleck in ‘Dogma’ (1999).
Smith reportedly said “I wonder if Matt would even do it. He's usually not that interested in treading where others have trod. He likes to break new ground."
But Smith added, "If they wind up casting Matt as Kirk, they should cast Ben as Spock. It seems like a no-brainer!"
