Warner Bros set to resurrect Conan
By M&C News Jun 16, 2006, 7:37 GMT
Warner Bros. has tapped Boaz Yakin (‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights’) to pen ‘Conan the Barbarian’, a new take on the two Dino De Laurentiis produced movies which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Yakin directed ‘Remember the Titans’ and all indications from WB are that he will also helm the new Conan movie.
Yakin has always been a fan of the comic book Conan character which was created by Robert E. Howard.
While no production date has yet been set, at least one company is quite pleased that WB is moving ahead with the new franchise.
"We are of course very happy to see that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with one, and potentially several, new Conan movies. We believe that this will further strengthen the Conan brand worldwide. The global fan-base of Conan will likely increase significantly and the marketing efforts of a Hollywood movie will have a very positive effect on all licensees working with the Conan brand," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom.
Funcom has the exclusive worldwide rights to make massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) under the Conan license until 2023. Their 'Age of Conan' is one of the most popular titles.
