First it was Russell Crowe who wanted script review but didn’t get it, who then was bumped by Heath Ledger who said he really didn’t want the part anyway and now we have Wolverine, ugh, Hugh Jackman to star in Baz Luhrmann’s epic romantic actioner set in Australia just prior to WWII.
Jackman co-stars with Nicole Kidman who will play an English aristocrat in the heartland of Australia in the late 1930’s early 40’s. When cattle barons plot to steal her land, she teams up with a cattle driver (Jackman) to drive cattle across hundreds of miles of ‘outback’. As the cattle drive ends, the pair must still face the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces.
Luhrmann’s $25 million off-again, on-again production, which still has no working title, now looks set for pre-production in the fall with an early 2007 shoot date.
