Columbia Pictures has asked Will Smith to put on ‘Seven Pounds’.
Columbia along with Escape Artists is in negotiations with Smith to produce and star in the story written by Grant Nieporte.
While no director has yet been assigned, Smith’s partner James Lassiter is set to produce.
‘Seven Pounds’ centers on a man who unexpectedly falls in love with a woman while attempting to kill himself.
Columbia/Escape Artists have worked with Smith before, producing his upcoming ‘Pursuit of Happyness’. “Happyness”, helmed by Italian director Gabriele Muccino, is scheduled to release in December 2006.
Muccino just dropped off of another Smith/Columbia/Escape Artists pic, ‘Tonight He Comes’, a movie about a superhero (Smith) who crash-lands in a small town and falls in love with a local housewife.
Smith is also working on ‘I Am Legend’, which is slated for release in July 2007.
Helmed by Francis Lawrence, an adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic sci-fi novel, Smith will face off against a breed of nocturnal mutants.
