Superman Returns flies to big screen early

It looks like Bryan Singer’s ‘Superman Returns’ will have its international day and date release two days early - June 28th, 2006.
While distributor Warner Brothers has not yet issued a formal press release with the change (their last release is dated April 22nd 2006 and announces a June 30th release), the official website shows a June 28th release date – changed from a previous June 30th listing.
Warner may want to boost up ticket sales over the long July 4th (Independence Day in the USA) weekend aiming to surpass the record “X-Men” take over last extended weekends Memorial Day four-day holiday.
Blockbuster and other first-run movies typically debut in theatres on Fridays, but in recent years Hollywood studios have opened movies on Wednesday prior to a holiday weekend to take advantage of advance hype.
Last year, Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks opened their science fiction adventure ‘War of the Worlds’ on the Wednesday before Independence Day and took-in $112.7 million over six days. In 2004, Sony Pictures' ‘Spider-Man 2’ raked in $180 million in a six-day release over the same holiday.
