The South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) reported May 28th that director brothers Danny and Oxide Pang will helm a remake of their 1999 feature, Thai produced ‘Bangkok Dangerous’.
This time around however, Nicolas Cage is to star in the action thriller. Cage’s character will speak, unlike the mute assassin in the original version.
Pang indicated that new elements would be introduced in the remake which most probably would include a multi-ethnic cast and crew.
Although born in Hong Kong, the Pang brothers enjoyed early success in Thailand.
Among their other credits is the horror film ‘The Eye," which tells the story of a young woman who sees visions of a dead woman whose corneas she inherited in a transplant.
Cruise/Wagner Productions bought remake rights to ‘The Eye’ and are set to distribute in the USA through Paramount Pictures in 2007, even though a director has not yet been assigned.
No information on production start date for ‘Bangkok Dangerous’ has been announced.
