20th Century Fox pulls plug on Used Guys

What do you do when a movie, not yet in production, exceeds its budget? Well, you can pull the plug.That’s exactly what 20th Century Fox has done with ‘Used Guys’ – they have quickly gone from green light to red light.The comedy which would have starred Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller with Jay Roach at the helm may have stalled with the Studio after original US$90 million budget grew to over $110 million.Carrey, Stiller and Roach – had already agreed to pay reductions and cut in backend in order to keep costs down. But more recently, it’s said that Fox asked for deeper cuts.Studio denies saying that sci-fi future settings would not be ready for the planned June start of production shoot in New Mexico and delay would cause Carry and Stiller to miss other film commitments they have.But disappointment turns to opportunity as Fox will now move up release of ‘Fantastic Four 2’ from its July 4 2007 slot to the one 'Used Guys' was sked for, June 15, 2007.‘Used Guys,’ which still may be picked up by another studio for shoot at a later date, is a futuristic story where woman rule the earth, men having become extinct due to consuming a fatal enhancement drink.Carrey and Stiller were to be featured as two clones to be replaced by newer models, with better lovemaking and listening skills... in order to save themselves, they go on the run to regain their dignity and find the male nirvana, Mantopia.
