To say he plagiarises because he used creatures like elves, dwarves, and urgals is just stupid. Do you really think Tolkien was the first to come up with them? And to say the plot is similar to others, you could say, to an extent, the same about every other fantasy novel out there.

Hes a big massive rip off. Most of his 'inspirations' are exactly the same as Tolkiens i read in an interview. Eragon is arragont plaigerism.

Hes taken all of Tolkiens lifetime research and rambled it up into a very mediocre piece of literature.

So, have any of you people who are bashing on the book, author, and movie actually read the book? If you have and didn't like it, then you can say so politely and appropriately. I read the book and I found it to be an incredible book. I've read Harry Potter and other fantasy books, and this is not only an original piece of work, but it's fantastic as well. And for your information, Christopher Paolini graduated high school at the age of fifteen. I must give Christopher props, because I would like to see any of these people who are submitting rude comments to create such a wonderful novel. I personally can't wait for the movie and I am planning on Getting Eldest soon, to continue the Inheritance Trilogy.

P.s.- If the book was so terrible, then why would there be a second one that came out. The book sold well, which means people loved it. And if there was plagerism, they would have taken the book off the market, sued the author, and ther would be no Eragon, Eldest, or Eragon the movie.

Whoever out there who thinks that Eragon is plagiarized should not even bother reading Eldest or any of the following creative stories by Christopher Paolini.
Christopher is a very talented author with a long carrer ahead of him. To me he's at the top of my list fantasy novels.

It seems to me that there is a disproportionate number of disgruntled bloggers on this site. What I am reading reeks of the jealousy of failed writers. Try this on for size: Paolini took existing ideas about dragons and elves and magic and modified them to make the medieval genre refreshingly new. Part of what makes the Inheritance Trilogy such a joy to read is the unbridled happiness and awe that Paolini feels on every page. I think he has amazed himself with the quality of his work as much as everyone else. I look forward to seeing what they can do in film with stories ripe for the telling. Well Done!

hey all-- i just wanted to tell you all that i think the book is abseloutly amazing. It was very entrancing, and had a mix of every emotion ever felt. And you know what?? When has there ever been a movie that did complete justice to the book(although i must say, LOTR was abseloutly fantastic) But really, books are books and movies are movies---if you're that mad, just don't watch it. And yeah I think the girl who plays Arya is blonde, but in the book it's darker--they could always have dyed it.

I'm a fourth grade teacher. Any book that encourages kids to read more books is a good book to me!! I've read the books (Eragon and Eldest) and they are a good read. I agree that the story line copies many concepts from other books, but most books do these days. Look at it from the point of view of a 10 year old who is innundated with video overload. They see a cool cover and actually want to READ! The book will help foster a love of reading in chidren. They need to start somewhere. Maybe they will want to find out where the story ideas originated from and want to read the classic fantasy literature. That is where I steer my students when they show an interest in Eragon and Eldest. Look at the big picture.

Personally, I enjoyed these books a lot. Taking an old idea and making it new or telling it in a different way has been tons of times. Do you know how many Holocaust stories there are out there? How many teen angst stories have been around? Do you know how many Rome and Juliet-like tales have been told? A story doesn't have to be original to be good. If you have enough talent, you could write a story that's been told over and over, like Cinderella, and it can still be good because you can WRITE. It's obviously cliche, but it's told in a way that's easy to read, and it grips you. I can't wait for the movie to come out.

The book is AWESOME! I know that the first book seems kinda like LotR and Harry Potter, but I like those, too :)

The second book is even better, I can't wait to see the movie!

he did finish high school...he finished it at 15. I'd agree to the fact that there are similarties to other books,,,but the VAST majority of the series (so far) is his own. and the reason his book got published is because his parents run a publishing company and when they were 'campaigning' Knopf noticed them and wanted to bring the book series out farther. so don't start bashing a guy when you don't know all the facts! that's just .....can I say...? wussy!

There is a few things i desperately want to know. When is the movie coming out for Eragon? Has Christopher decided what the third book will be called? How many books does Chris think there will be?

By the way, i personally think that Eragon and Eldest are the best books i've read in a while.

Does Eragon remind anyone else of the original Star Wars Trilogy? I mean if you think about it Brom is kinda an Obi Wan and Eragon is Luke...Murtagh is Vader and Gabatorix is the Emperor...ect. etc. I dunno it just seemed alot like that to me...
