Brokeback Mountain actor sues producers for 10 million dollars

Los Angeles - Actor Randy Quaid is suing the makers of the hit movie Brokeback Mountain for 10 million dollars claiming they duped him into accepting a cut-rate salary by claiming that it was a low budget film, Variety reported Friday. Quaid, 55, played a key supporting role in the movie as the ranch manager who witnesses the evolution of a homosexual relationship between two sheep wranglers played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. The widely respected character actor claimed that Brokeback director Ang Lee told him in 2004: 'We can't pay anything, we have very little money, everyone is making a sacrifice to make this film.' The suit does not specifically state how much Quaid made, but it does claim that the defendants 'were engaged in a 'movie laundering' scheme designed to obtain the services of talent such as Randy Quaid on economically unfavorable art film terms for a picture that, in reality, had studio backing and would be exploited using traditional studio marketing and distribution techniques.' The suit asks for 10 million dollars in damages as well as punitive damages. It also seeks 'restitution for all ill-gotten gains.'
